Watching S2 of Stargate: SG-1, I heard a familiar voice. Looked up at the TV - "Hi, Curtis!"

Yes, friends and neighbors, Curtis Manning (well, the actor who plays him) makes a guest appearance on SG-1. hee!

Daniel: Well, I guess we'll have to hole up in here a while until things calm down.
Teal'c: Things will not calm down, Daniel Jackson. They will in fact calm up.

And then there's:

Jack: Teal'c, you don't have to stick around.
Teal'c: Undomesticated equines could not remove me.
Jack: It's wild horses, Teal'c. Wild . . . It's a joke. You told a joke.

Stargate dialogue of the day:

Daniel: What happened?
Jack: You actually won a fight, Danny-boy.
Daniel: I don’t particularly remember getting the upper hand.
Sam: Neither do I, but you must have.
Daniel: P2A-509.
Jack: Little brain damage along the way?
Daniel: No – SG-3 was scheduled to go on a mission to P2A-509. General Hammond said so in our last planning briefing. We rendezvous with SG-3 and we use their remote transmitters to get home.
Jack: And this just came to you?
Daniel: No, this came to me while I was suffocating.

The Descent. One word summary: Why? If you want a spooky story about spelunkers discovering something nasty and carnivorous, watch The Cave. It's the better movie. In oh-so-many ways.

Went to Hollywood Video the other day. :-)

The Illusionist. Just as good on the second viewing. Ed Norton is a stud.

The Devil Wears Prada. Light, amusing, predictable. Simon Baker as a charming cad almost makes it all worthwhile. Meryl Streep is lovely as always and Stanley Tucci is a pleasure, as well.

My Super-Ex Girlfriend. Silly, silly, silly. But Eddie Izzard is amusing, and I'll watch nearly anything Luke Wilson does, up to and including Old School. Yes, I am a pathetic fangirl.

Final Move. The latest independent film headlining Matt Schulze. Also features Rachel Hunter, David Carradine, and Daniel Baldwin. It's about a psychic ex-cop (that's psychic, not psychotic) responsible for sending a serial killer to the electric chair. The day after the dude is executed, the killings start again. Not a bad concept, not a bad film. Too much gratuitous nudity for my taste, and it's definitely a B movie, but I like B movies. And I definitely like seeing Matt play the hero for once. :-)

Bra’tac: Teal’c tells me your world is without gods. It is difficult to imagine.
Jack: Well, it’s not without gods. A lot of people believe there is a god. Not everyone believes in the same god the same way, but . . . let’s just that nobody believes in anyone with glowing eyes and a snake in his head.
Bra’tac: Then you serve no one.
Jack: I serve the SGC, under a General Hammond.
Bra’tac: So, this Hammond is, uh . . .
Jack: Just a man. A very good, very bald man from Texas.

Stargate: SG-1 quote of the day:

Jack: Lucy, I’m home!
Teal’c: I am not Lucy.
Jack: I know that. It’s a reference to an old T- Never mind. Open the door.
Teal’c: I will summon the doctor.
Jack: No, no. Come on! I’m fine. I’m back to being myself. Open up.
Teal’c: I cannot be certain you are back to being yourself. You referred to me as “Lucy.”

Watching S1 of SG-1 - it's amazing how much has changed over the years. Aside from all of them looking so young, Chris Judge is so much smaller. He and Michael Shanks have bulked up so gradually that the change wasn't as plain as it happened, but holy cow.

Listening to the radio on the way to work this morning. They played Richard Marx's "Hazard," and it reminded me that I always thought that was his tribute to Bruce Springsteen. My favorite Springsteen album is one of the old ones - "The River." When "Hazard" was in constant rotation on the radio, I thought that it needed to be mixed with the title track from that Springsteen album. See if you don't agree - the bold is Marx, italics are Springsteen:

Some time ago, I followed links and stumbled across a Firefly/Farscape cross fic that I'd really like to read again. It featured Mal and Crichton ending up on the same planet, fighting the same enemy for a while.

If you know what story I'm talking about, would you link me, please-and-thank you?

I love how Superman's hair gets all mussed by the wind, but the instant he stops flying it falls into that perfect side part with the little curl falling down.

And on a more serious note (well, as serious as you can get when talking about Superman) Cut for spoilers )

Watching Superman Returns again, I have noticed something. Not just that Brandon Routh is smokin' hot (although he is), but that he did something that I'm not sure everyone gives him credit for. See, he didn't just play Superman. He played Christopher Reeve playing Superman. Voice. Intonations. Facial expressions. Even down to the movements of facial muscles when he doesn't say anything. It's uncanny.

And then, of course, there's the hotness factor. Yowza.

Jack: You’ve got that look.
Teal’c: To which look are you referring, O’Neill?
Daniel: The one that says ‘I have misgivings about this mission but deep down I know we’re doing the right thing’?
Jack: No. The other one.
Daniel: Oh.

Daniel: Their whole world is in flames and we’re offering them gasoline. How is that helping them?
Teal’c: We are in fact offering water.
Jack: Thank you!
Daniel: I was speaking metaphorically.
Jack: Well, stop it. It’s not fair to Teal’c.

What I love about this episode is that there is absolutely no mention of Nazis, WWII, or anything related to it. It's all there, but it's all subtext, all unspoken. I love that the lessons of that period of our history are so ingrained that no one needs to say anything.
